Convergent consulting are a large London based I.T. consultancy business providing computer systems for the world’s largest banking organisations. This I.T. Consultancy operates mainly in London (UK) and Zurich (Switzerland); they required a pure mobile website for use during their business meetings with potential new clients. This is where our web developers jumped up to the challenge and had to think a bit differently to normal.
The company directors at this I.T. Consultancy approached Daly Design requesting a website for advertising their extremely highly advanced and technical I.T. Consultancy services to people that are uniquely positioned within the banking industry. In addition, they also required a new brand identity and this is where our graphic designer expertise was needed.
Our design team initially created and new IT consultancy logo (based on a 3 tier communications and methodology principle) brand identity and company stationery and assessed the best approach to design a website primarily suited for mobile phones to fit their criteria.
Due to the purpose of the company website, search engine optimisation was not a priority and it was initially stipulated that an ebrochure website was required to be used for presenting via mobile phones only. Desktop compatibility was deemed to be secondary as the website would be primarily presented via face to face meetings during high profile banquets and high executive meetings.
In normal web design projects (based on desktop traffic being the most popular for business to business websites) we would initially create web design visuals for desktop, then customise for tablet (landscape and portrait), then finally customise for mobile. This is an extremely successful method for creating a successful business website, whereas most web design companies will use a reusable template theme which often looks nice on one screen (I.e. mobile) but then becomes extremely large and chunky on another size screen (I.e. desktop). As a result we knew this had to be a bespoke build and had to think backwards by designing it for mobile first.
One hurdle we initially discovered was the volume of text on a mobile site was excessive, yet as an I.T. consultancy, there was not much imagery available (yet the client did not want the typical cheesy stock photography). The client was a big fan of our infographics so our designers created a website that captivated the target audience via a series of professional infographics that portrayed the services offered.
Our web designers have analysed the website visitor statistics and trends, evidence shows that this approach works well and that the website is performing well within mobile devices.
Now that the website is built, maybe we can sit back and think of new infographics that might be suitable for our own company website ! :O)
