Designing a website for an App has a different approach. Although we can design a website to sell products for businesses, an App website has different target audiences and purposes which meant that coming up with the inital web design specifications for this website would need a bit of thinking outside the box.
First instance is the target audience, our marketing team established that most people using the website would mainly be using mobile devices, primarily mobile phones as this was for a GPS based driving app. As a result of this, our web designers would then have to design the website for ‘mobile first’, rather than desktop. This also meant that the design of the website would need to be kept linear, flowing downwards as if a customer would scroll down. There would be no left or right hand columns with sub menu’s, cross selling or related information. The website would need to look modern, clean and with little clutter or detail.
The audience would most likely use the website for various purposes:
- Research an app suitable for their purpose
- Research the App/Developer prior to committing to purchase
- Contact the App developers
- App Tech Support
With this website functionality in mind, and the devices used to browse the website, the site would only require dedicated content, with minimal sales (as most of the sales information would be needed within the App stores). Likewise SEO would be minimal as customers tend to arrive at the website via the app stores or the app itself and rarely via Google.
Designing this website was different to say the least, but the end result was a beautiful end product.
